邦字新聞デジタル・コレクションはアメリカ大陸、アジアにおける海外在住の日本人や日系人が発行した海外日系新聞を集めた世界最大規模のオンライン、オープンアクセス、全ページ画像を提供するコレクションです。新聞の画像を可能な限り光学文字認識（OCR）でテキスト化することにより、新聞記事の検索を可能にしました。各新聞は発行年月日、新聞名、発行場所ごとに閲覧でき、サイト内で他の新聞と横断検索ができます。当時の政治状況、対象購読者層により、新聞の性質はコミュニティー中心のものから政治、軍事プロパガンダまで多岐にわたります。

The Hoji Shinbun Digital Collection is currently the world’s largest online archive of open-access, full image Japanese American and other overseas Japanese newspapers in Asia and South America. Image content in this collection is accompanied by OCR-generated text where possible, thus rendering the text searchable. The holdings of each title are browsable by date, title, and publication place, with each title cross searchable with other titles on the platform. The nature of the newspapers varies significantly from community-focused to political or military propaganda depending on the political conditions and target readership.

この写真ガラス原板は、昭和10年（1935）、文部省の法隆寺国宝保存事業部による修理事業の一環として美術印刷会社便利堂によって撮影されたものです。しかし昭和24年（1949）1月26日、不慮の火災により金堂壁画が焼損いたしました。

The glass photographic plates were taken in 1935 by Benridō, a firm from Kyoto specializing in artistic printing. This effort was part of a larger project helmed by the Ministry of Education aimed at preserving the National Treasure of Hōryūji Temple and its cultural properties, large numbers of which are also designated National Treasures. Yet little over a decade later, a calamitous fire broke out on January 26, 1949, severely damaging the murals in the Hōryūji Kondō.
