Kōyasan University Library, Published by Kōmyōin-Bunko

From Early Kamakura Period

Three Volumes (includes missing volume)

A book by Kūkai when he was 24 years old (Enryaku 16 [797]). Made up of three volumes. Preaches the teachings of Confucianism, Taoism, and Buddhism throughout a dialogue between five characters of Tokaku-kō, Shitsuga-kō, Kimō-sensei, Kyomō-inshi, and Kamei-Kotsuji. The dialogue concludes that Buddhism is the best teaching out of the three. The Kongōbu-ji temple in Koyasan has a teaching "Rouko Shīki" also written by Kūkai. It is similar to Sangō Shiīki, however, the prologue and ”thousand words” are different between the two. According to recent studies, it is said that "Rouko Shīki" was written when Kūkai was 24 years old, and Sangō Shīki was written when Kūkai came back from studying abroad in China and is a revised version of his previous work.A book by Kūkai when he was 24 years old.
